Winter Weather Disrupts Athletic Schedules

Spring sports often bring the most scheduling changes with rain washing away many outdoor events, particularly in baseball and softball.

Winter sports tend to be more stable simply because they are indoors, but the weather continued to disrupt sports schedules along with everything else, forcing the cancellation of all high school events, including three varsity contests each involving teams from Tappan Zee and Nyack.

Like many schools in the area, both have already had to make adjustments this winter. In addition to snow and freezing conditions causing schools to close or cancel afternoon activities, Tappan Zee also had to cancel a home boys basketball game against rival Pearl River Jan. 8 due a ruptured gas line on Dutch Hill Road. That game will be played 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 with the same caveat as all events this winter --  weather permitting.
