Upper Nyack Students Celebrate Basketball Win With Pizza

Three fifth graders won a tournament earlier this month

Three Upper Nyack Elementary School students were the envy of many of their classmates in the cafeteria Tuesday, as they enjoyed a pizza party with D.A.R.E. Officer Kevin Shannon.

Earlier this month, the three fifth graders won the D.A.R.E. Basketball Tournament, held at Felix Festa Middle School. The boys -- Gus Howard, Luke White and Julian Brooks -- won the 22-team tournament. Shannon said the tournament trophy is out being engraved with their names and he’ll hopefully present it to them within the next week or two.

On the girls side, Kimberly Carpertiere, Maya Feerick, Maggie Kennedy and Liz Dwyer from Link Elementary School won the 22-team tournament. The girls second place finishers were from St. Augustine’s and the runner up on the boys side came from Valley Cottage Elementary School.

The D.A.R.E. Basketball Tournament has taken place since 1997 and is hosted by the Clarkstown Police Department.
