Tappan Zee Softball Faces Rival Pearl River

Tappan Zee will play at Pearl River 5 p.m. today in a battle of two of the top teams in Class A.

Pearl River junior pitcher Mandy McCarthy shut out rival Tappan Zee twice last season, 3-0 May 18 and 1-0 April 21.

Both pitchers carried no-hitters into the seventh inning of the earlier contest, with Pearl River finally winning it with a walk-off single by Amanda Hartigan in the bottom of the seventh.

McCarthy and Tappan Zee junior Paula Gutkin will face off again when the teams play 5 p.m today at Pearl River in the first league game of the season for the Pirates.
