A summer season that began with a one-run victory in mid-June concluded on July 28 with a one-run victory—and the championship—for the Piermont Yankees 13U Professional Baseball Instruction (PBI) travel team.

The Yankees, managed by Joe Comparetto, nailed down the title with a 3-2 victory over the Paramus Spartans at Petruska Park in Paramus, NJ. “It was a great playoff series with each game going down to the last out,” noted Comparetto, also offering his congratulations to the Pearl River Nationals, and Spartans for their fine seasons. “Both organizations are well-coached with a great group of young
players.”

Piermont had opened its season by edging the Rockland Rampage, 6-5, and also beat the Rampage by a run, 4-3, in the playoff run.
Comparetto’s crew--which advanced to the title game by defeating the Nationals, 2-1, behind the pitching of William Silverstone—also received strong pitching against Paramus.

Starting pitcher William Weber hurled a solid 5-plus innings in the championship game, paving the way for a late-game win.
Piermont took a 1-0 lead in the first as Nick Comparetto’s scored on Jason Levy’s clutch two-out hit.

With Weber holding Paramus down, Daulton Newbury and Justin Breslow knocked in what proved the winning runs for the Yankees. Hits by Drew Cipolli and Joey DiBenedetto set up Piermont’s final run, scored by Kyle Zinser.

The Yankees still had one final mountain to surmount before hoisting the championship banner, as the host Spartans refused to go down easily.

The Spartans advanced runners to second and third bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Randy Slavik escaped the jam to preserve a well- earned victory.

The Piermonters backed Silverstone with solid defense in the win against Pearl River, and Silverstone also supplied the critical offense with a two-run single driving in Justin Breslow, and Nick Comparetto.

Newbury contributed two hits to help in the victory.
