Weather Alters Section Baskeball, Wrestling Schedules

The basketball games scheduled for today were pushed to Monday and the start of Section 1 wrestling was postponed until Sunday.

The threat of heavy snow today and Saturday pushed Section 1 to adapt its upcoming schedules in basketball and football.

For basketball, that meant pushing back the boys and girls pairings meetings from Monday morning to Monday night. This allowed teams to reschedule games from Friday and Saturday to complete their seasons before the meetings. The Section 1 basketball tournaments are sheduled to begin with preliminary round games Feb. 13 and the first round Feb. 15.

Section 1 also made the decision late Thursday afternoon to postpone the start of the wrestling championships from Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. The full Division 1 tournament will be Sunday at Pace, with Division 2 at Irvington.

Clarkstown South, Clarkstown North, Nyack, Pearl River and Tappan Zee will be among the field at Pace. Nanuet will try to defend its Section 1 Division 2 title at Irvington.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
