Nyack's Ciavarella Takes Fifth in State Swim Race

Nyack junior Nicole Ciavarella finished fifth in the finals of the 100 yard breaststroke Sunday in the New York State and Federation Swimming Championship meet at Ithaca College. 

Long Beach freshman Margaret Aroesty won the race with a time of 1:04.33. Ciavarella's time was 1:06.3. Her qualifying time of 1:04.99 placed her as the top seed going into the meet. She finished third in the state as a sophomore. She also finished 34th in the 200 individual medley.

Nyack teammate Tiana Poindexter finished 30th in the 50 freestyle. 

Among other Rockland athletes:

  • Suffern's Stevie Meyerson took sixth in the diving competition. 
  • Clarkstown's Meaghan McGovern swam 12th in the 500 freestyle and 26th in the 200 individual medley. Her teammate, Hana Dari, finished 25th in the 200 freestyle. They teamed with Shannon Farrell and Lauren Sweet to finish ninth in the 400 freestyle relay. 
  • For Tappan Zee, Brittany Bailey was 18th in the 100 backstroke and Alison McNamara 27th in the 100 breaststroke.
