Parade Continues Nyack Homecoming Tradition

Before the Nyack Indians played Poughkeepsie Friday night, fall athletes, cheerleaders and others marched onto the field as part of the homecoming parade.

Other fall athletes, staff members, cheerleaders and more marched into McCalman Field Friday night before Nyack High School’s homecoming game against Poughkeepsie as part of the homecoming parade.

While the band played inside the stadium, the parade started outside, with the participants marching on the street with police officers blocked off traffic. They made their way into the stadium and marched around the field while the two teams lined up on the field. Some in the parade even wore Indian headdresses and facepaint in support of their Nyack Indians.

Things looked good for Nyack a while after the parade, as the Indians jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime over the Pioneers. But there was still a second half to play, and Poughkeepsie came out strong and kept it up, out-scoring Nyack 31-0 after the half to earn a 31-21 victory, the Pioneers first against Nyack ever. Poughkeepsie completed the comeback to tie the game early in the fourth when the Pioneers ran back a blocked punt for a touchdown. The win gives the Pioneers a 7-0 record in the regular season, and the loss drops Nyack down to 5-2 for the year.
