Sierra Club Hook Mountain/Rockland Lake Hike

How to find us: We will be in the south parking lot (Parking Lot 4) of Rockland Lake State Park off of Route 9W in Congers, NY. We will meet near the entrance booth.

This will be a moderate 5 mile hike with about 1000' of total climbing. There will be some ups and downs along the ridge as we enjoy excellent views of Hudson River and Croton Point. Enjoy 360-degree views from one of highest points on the Palisades, the summit of Hook Mountain, a famous hawk watch point. We will then visit the old community of Rockland Lake and learn some history of the defunct ice industry.  Bring lunch and water. Hiking boots will prove very useful. There is one fairly step descent. The hike should be over around 3:30 PM. Due to State Park Regulations, pets are not permitted on this hike.

Leader: John P. Jurasek: 845-365- 3618    (no calls after 10pm) or Jurasek@optonline.net.

Public transportation from the city and points south is available on the 9:15 AM Rockland Coaches 9A bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to meet us at Rockland Lake by 10:35. Tell the driver you are going to Rockland Lake. The bus will drop you off right in front of the State Park entrance on the corner of Route 9W and Lake Road where you can then walk directly to the parking lot where we will be waiting.
