Sierra Club Blauvelt Parks Hike

10 Mile Moderately Strenuous hike (because of the distance). There will be over 1200' of total elevation gain as there are several ups and downs along the ridge. We will climb up Clausland Mt. (700' not steep climb) through historic Rockland Cemetery past the old Nike missal base. We will then continue through various parks on the ridge until we reach the old abandoned National Guard Rifle Range. Once there, we will then explore the mysterious "tunnels". After hiking past Nyack College, we will take the relatively flat Piermont-Nyack Rail trail back. Bring hiking boots, lunch, 2 quarts of water.  Don't worry; this will be a moderate paced fun hike although a bit long. We meet in front of 450 Piermont Ave. (building with mural), corner of Tate and Piermont Ave. in Piermont NY at 10:15 AM. Park across the street in municipal lot D. Great directions can be found at Driving Directions They will take you just a half block away from our meeting spot. The hike should be over around 5:00 PM. Leader: John P. Jurasek: 845-365- 3618   (no calls after 10pm) or Jurasek@optonline.net.

Public transportation from the city and points south is available on the 9:15 AM Rockland Coaches 9A bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to meet us in Piermont by 10:17. Tell the driver you are going to Piermont, NY. The bus will drop you off right in front of 450 Piermont Ave. (building with mural) on the corner of Tate and Piermont Aves. where we will be waiting.
