This year the 24th annual Pearl River Golf Invitational was played at Blue Hill Golf Course in Orangetown. The five teams took on nine holes and the tournament was a par 36.

Tappan Zee took the team crown with a 205 as Pearl River finished in second with a 229 and Nanuet edged out Nyack and Albertus Magnus for the bronze with a 241.

Tappan Zee’s Angela Tocco won the event over teammate Luke Grennan on the second hole of a playoff. Both golfers shot a 40.

Nyack’s Alex Ferrante picked up a fourth place finish in the tournament with a 41.

Sport: Girls Lacrosse

Game: Pleasantville vs. Nyack

Score: Nyack Won 19-8

Highlights: Andie O’Sullivan led Nyack with six goals as Taylor Bertolacci scored four and assisted on another four in the win. Jamie Figler had 15 Saves for Pleasantville in the loss.

 

Sport: Boys Lacrosse

Game: Tappan Zee vs. Hen Hud

Score: Tappn Zee Won 7-5

In baseball, Nyack heads to Tappan Zee at noon.

In boys lacrosse, Fox Lane heads to Nyack at 4:30 p.m.

Free Golf Clinic:

Rockland Lake’s golf pros will be hosting a Saturday April 14 at 1 p.m. This is open to all Clarkstown residents and will be held on the North driving range.

College Sports Notebook:

Chargers looks to bounce back

The Dominican College women’s lacrosse team hopes to bounce back on Saturday after suffering a heartbreaking triple overtime sudden-death loss to the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University, 16-15.

Dominican, which fell to 3-7 overall and 3-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, will welcome Chestnut Hill College of Philadelphia to Orangeburg on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

The Chargers forged a late tie against Holy Family as sophomore KC Jentzen of Pearl River scored unassisted, and freshman attack Allison Smithwick of Commack converted a pass from senior Aubree Williams of Great Meadows, NJ, with 16 seconds remaining.           

In the first overtime, Dominican scored both goals as Traci-Joan Muniz of Middlesex, NJ, scored unassisted and freshman Gina Sparaco of Freeport converted a pass from Williams.

Williams and Jentzen each scored four goals while goalie Veronica Iozzi of Chester, NJ, made 16 saves in 68:40 of action.

 

 

Mortarboard musings

  • Monroe-Woodbury alum Colby Lewis of the Rockland Community College golf team is ranked second in the player standings in the Mid-Hudson Conference. The Hawks are also second in the team standings, behind Dutchess CC.
