Two big wrestling tournaments took place over the weekend in Westchester as Rye hosted an eight team meet and Port Chester hosted 12 teams at SUNY Purchase for the 36th annual Tony Carlucci Tournament. Fox Lane beat Somers for first place in the Port Chester meet and Brewster took the title at Rye. Check out our photo gallery from Saturday’s action at SUNY Purchase on Facebook.

Cancer affects everyone on a daily basis, and Jimmy V’s ESPY speech still rings in my ears. Years ago ESPN set up the Jimmy V foundation to help fight this disease, and every year at this time the family of networks asks for donations and sets up a week full of survival stories in the sports world.

The Port Chester Softball Booster Club is currently running a fund raiser with Modell’s. The coupon entitles you to 15 percent off of your purchase until December 22 and five percent of the purchase will go to help the program.  May as well help out a local team and save some money while doing your Christmas shopping.

The Clarkstown hockey season has already begun, and at 1-2 things are not going as well as they could be. Last year the team went 10-10-1 and recently Patch caught up with Coach Andrew Trust to discuss this year’s squad.

As far as age and, more importantly experience goes, what type of team do you expect to have this season?

“We have a very talented but young team.  There are bunch of guys who are new to the district and have never played with the other guys before.  It’s still a work in progress, but we expect to on par with the elite teams of the section.”

What were some of the weaknesses your team had last year that you hope to improve upon this season?

“Smart play, we are looking to reduce the number of mental errors.”

Who are some of your returning players coming back who you see being big contributors?

“Mitch LeSueur, Austin Vanderlinden, Brett Chase, Jack Dickson”

Who are some of your new players you are expecting to thrust into a larger role on the team?

“Mike Taussi, Maurice Morris, Mike Gillespi”

How has the team been preparing in the off-season?

“We had weekly summer clinics and captains practices until the season started.”

What are your goals for the season as a team?

“Our goal is to grow as a team and prove that we belong in the conversation with the best teams of the section.”

Are there one or two games circled on the schedule this season?

“We take all games with the same approach.”

What are you personally looking forward to this season?

“The Playoffs!  I really enjoy being around the team and I know by the time the playoffs come we will be playing our best hockey.”
