Orangeburg's Aunt Mia's Sweets Making Thanksgiving Cookie Runs Today

Maria Caputo, owner of Aunt Mia's Sweets in Orangeburg, will be teaming up with a group of St. Thomas Aquinas students to make some special deliveries today.

Caputu will bring cookie platters to Nyack Hospital, residents at the Nyack Manor nursing home and the Soup Angels soup kitchen at the First Reformed Chruch of Nyack. She wanted to share something sweet with people would not have the opportunity to come to her store, which is located in the Orangeburg Shopping Center.

"There's no better way to make people smile than by giving them something sweet," Caputo said. "Since I always see my customers smile when they eat my cookies, I thought what better way to give everyone that chance than by actually delivering my products to those who don't get to come in to the store."

Caputo plans to start at the soup kitchen, then go to the nursing home before finishing her pre-Thanksgiving run at Nyack Hospital, where she will give out the cookies to pediatric patients, their families and the staff.

"I wanted to do something that would thank the Rockland community because without them, my store would not exist," Caputo said.
