Orangetown Highway Dept. Recognizes Summit School Students

The Summit School in Upper Nyack offers a program to show students what it is like to go to work every day.
One place the students work is the Orangetown Highway Department, which has them help with task such as filling sand bags.
“They come to us 12 months a year, once or twice a week, and do whatever we ask,” Orangetown Highway Superintendent Jim Dean said. “Usually, we have them put together the brown bags with tape on it. They do over 10,000 of those packs every year. When we need it they fill sand bags. We keep 300 on hand. Sometimes they help us put together materials for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.”
The Orangetown Highway Department recognized the Summit School Youth Employment Work Program during the 2012 Highway Awards Presentation Tuesday night at the beginning of the Orangetown Town Board meeting.
“They get a benefit and we get an excellent benefit, a work force that comes free to Orangetown,” Dean said.Due to a conflict with a school trip to a Yankees game, only four of the 13 students recognized were at town hall Tuesday.
Those honored were:
