New Nyack Middle School Principal Appointed

Kevin Brentnall, a former Paramus middle school principal, takes the helm

When former Nyack High School principal Joe Spero and Nyack Middle School principal Nicole Saieva was selected to take over his role, it left her post open.

Now, the Nyack School Board has appointed Saieva's replacement—Kevin Brentnall, who previously served as principal of East Brook Middle School in Paramus, NJ since 2008.

Nyack Schools' superintendent, James Montesano, .

School officials said Brentnall was one of 31 candidates interviewed from a pool of over 100 applicants, and spoke with board members, teachers and parents during the hiring process.

"All were impressed with his demonstrated leadership abilities, his strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, both in the school building and extending out to the community, and his extensive curriculum and instruction background," said Gail Fleur, the district's director of communications.

Brentnall has previously worked as an assistant middle school principal, a supervisor of social studies, a social studies teacher and director of athletics. He was named Montvale Schools' (NJ) Teacher of the Year during these years.

Brentnall holds a BA from the University of Maryland and an MS from Iona College.

"I am so excited about the opportunity to come to Nyack and become part of the community," he said. "Nyack Middle School has an excellent reputation and the work done there by the present administration and teaching staff is to be commended. I have been very lucky to work with so many wonderful students and adults. I look forward to creating those same positive relationships in Nyack."

A welcome reception will be held for Brentnall Thursday, June 28 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
