Youngsters pay tribute to 9/11 heroes

is commemorating 9/11 a decade after in a very specific way: with brown paper lunch bags.

This month, students will take part in the service-learning project Operation Goody Bag, decorating bags with a patriotic themes and filling them with sweets and hand-written letters. The missives are then mailed to troops and first responders.

A Tootsie Roll drive was kicked off last week and will continue until October; residents are asked to contribute candy to the cause.

Operation Goody Bag has shipped over 200,000 bags since its start in 2003. For more information, visit their website.
