Day Trip to Explore Huguenot Street

The Historical Society of Rockland County continues its popular bus trips on Saturday, July 23.  Our destination is Huguenot Street in New Paltz, New York which is in a National Historic Landmark District where in 1678 a small but brave group of French speaking Huguenot refugees from southern Belgium and northern France set out to create a community of their own. They purchased 40,000 acres which is now known as the mid-hudson valley. We plan a tour of the church and three of the houses where it all began.  On the way, we will be stopping in Newburgh with a visit to the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and The Highlands where we will tour The Captain David Crawford House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1830 for Captain David Crawford, this  majestic house, architecturally unique in the Hudson Valley, is remarkably intact, having been little changed over the years. There is a wealth of original interior and exterior architectural detail. After lunch at The Gilded Otter Pub, we will continue our day at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz. The Museum’s permanent collection spans a period of almost 4,000 years. Areas of specialization include 20th century prints and paintings, Asian art, Pre-Columbian art and artifacts, decorative arts (metals), and photographs. The Museum has a special commitment to collecting important works of art created by artists that have lived and worked in the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions.

Fee:  $89 per person and includes luxury bus transportation, all entrance fees and lunch.

Motorcoach leaves from The Historical Society's parking lot at 8:15am with an expected return at 6:30pm
