'A Mighty River': Contributions of the Peoples of the African Diaspora to the Economic Development Along the Hudson River

On Wednesday evening, March 30 at 7:30 p.m, the Historical Society of the Nyacks, the African-American Historical Society of Rockland County, and the Nyack Library will present the program "A Mighty River: Contributions of the Peoples of the African Diaspora to the Economic Development along the Hudson River" at the Nyack Library.  This program, which includes a video, a dramatic piece entitled, "A Brickyard Monologue in Three Parts" and several exhibits, was produced by the CEJJES  Institute of Pomona and the African American Historical Society of  Rockland. Jamila Shabaz  Brathwaite, Program Director of the CEJJES Institute, will introduce the video and lead a discussion following the screening.

"A Mighty River" brings to light many significant and previously unknown facts concerning the roles of African Americans in the local economy, as both laborers and small businessmen. The Brickyard Monologue has been presented around the county by students in RCC's  Performing Arts Department and brings to life the lives of those black workers in the brick yards of Haverstraw.
