Clarkstown, Orangetown Named ‘Booming Suburb’ by Coldwell Banker

Clarkstown and Orangetown are among the “Best Places to Live” in the country, according to Coldwell Banker Real Estate. 

The Rockland County towns were named number one and two respectively out of 10 communities on the real estate firm’s “Top Booming Suburbs” list for New York.

"In Rockland County, you see a high desirability to live in the towns on this survey and others like them,” said Hal Maxwell, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in New Jersey and Rockland County, in a press release. “With a mix of quality suburban living and close proximity to centers of business, you truly get the best of both worlds."

About 1,500 communities across the county were rated for the survey, which is a part of Coldwell Bankers’s “Best Places to Live” series. The survey measured year-over-year rates of employment and unemployment; access to grocery stores, banks and other urban staples; proximity to good school districts; car commuting and community safety.

  • Glen Cove (Nassau County) ranked as no. 3
  • Bethlehem (Albany County) ranked as no. 4
  • Smithtown (Suffolk County) ranked as no. 5
  • Guilderland (Albany County) ranked as no. 6
  • Clifton Park (Saratoga County) ranked as no. 7
  • Carmel (Putnam County) ranked as no. 8
  • Yorktown (Westchester County) ranked as no. 9
  • Riverhead (Suffolk County) ranked as no. 10

Though New York didn’t make Coldwell’s nationwide list, Clarkstown was no. 1 when it came to their listings by state.

“As America continues to bounce back from the recession, this ranking identifies suburbs that have shown strong economic growth since the recovery,” said Budge Huskey, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC, in a press release. “These communities have the American ideals we love, the suburban dream intact and a population that is finding jobs.”
