Zebrowski Pushes for All Electronic Tolls on TZ Bridge During Rush Hour

Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski (D-New City) will introduce legislation that would allow only electronic tolling on the Tappan Zee Bridge during rush hours.

Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski (D-New City) announced a plan to lessen congestion on the Tappan Zee Bridge Monday.

Zebrowski will introduce legislation that would direct the NYS Thruway Authority to allow only electronic tolling on the bridge during rush hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"Congestion on the Tappan Zee has been an ongoing issue for several years, but these past few weeks have been particularly difficult for commuters," Zebrowski said. "All Electronic Tolling programs have been successful in decreasing traffic congestion and improving commuting times."

According to a release from Zebrowski's office, similar programs have been implemented in Florida and Texas and the MTA recently began using it on the Henry Hudson Bridge.

Drivers without an EZ-Pass would be able to drive through an All-Electronic Tolling lane, where their cars would be identified by their license plates. They would then be billed for the toll.

The program would run through Dec. 31, 2017, when an analysis of the impact of the program would be completed. That study would be used to determine if the program should continue.

ok heres a frebbie Ken..a viewpoint that maybe you can introduce to those in power who want to make things safer for the people..."How about a rockland ordinance requiring property owners who have trees leaning...to take them down within say 30 days notice of being reported????As I have seen on many propertys some very close to neighbors houses very big trees actually leaning against others...so how about you get to work ASAP and get a law to help others from having to deal with more than dangerous situations...lets NOT leave the tree problems to the property owners because even ONE incident is ONE too many...wow a taxpayer trying to help!!!!say make it a 500 dollar fine if not corrected..also it will bring revenue to the county..

I think some of you are not quite sure of what Ken Zebrowski is proposing. I just came back from a trip in Florida where I drove through the system he wants to add onto the bridge. It's not a system where if you evade the tolls or use the bridge without an ez-pass where you will be fined. It is a system that simple see's your plate, and sends you the bill for the toll in the mail. The only hassel would be having to mail in your payment which I am sure you can pay online. It could take no more than 5 minutes to pay this bill, which is much better than sitting on the bridge, which has been awful lately. Even after construction, this system would help in so many ways. Again, there is no additional fee for using the bridge without an ez-pass, you just receive the toll bill in the mail instead of paying on the bridge during those times. Anything to help ease congestion is a great idea, I see zero harm in this system.

I agree with Mr Zebrowksi,we need to find ways to releave commuter traffic, for various important reasons. I hope some of the ideas I wiLl share here will come to fruition! 1) other than "easy pass"" implement an "easy way" for those with more "modest ways to afford, example, design a card much like a "minutes phone card, that can be purchased in most places and ensure a strip that can be read much like the original easy pass, purchases can be $ade from check cashing stores to pharmacies to grocery stores, esp at the morning commute at the coffee shops, or have these machines quite like auto lotto machines which people can purchase the "easy way" purchase at stores or along highways like road side travel spots as well, hopefully a company out there can design a machoine to sell the cards for daily weekly monthy, with 3) the problems or to ensure all the way around financial coverage n keep cost down, purchase an easy pass by paying a dollar per licensed driver to ensure Every licensed driver has an easy pass, have it be part of the license or registration process, I hope this feedback will serve some ontergral purpose, Respectfully Darlene Alessio
