Weck Elected Nyack Fire Department Chief

Second-generation volunteer a member of Empire Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 in Upper Nyack.

The all-volunteer Nyack Fire Department on Thursday elected second-generation volunteer James Weck as its new chief.

In voting at Upper Nyack Elementary School, members of the department also named longtime volunteer Vincent Reid as deputy chief, the No. 2 post in the department, and John Galietta as battalion chief.

The election marked the end of the term of outgoing Nyack Fire Chief James Petriello.

Weck now oversees the firefighting efforts of the department, which includes eight fire companies located in Nyack, Upper Nyack and South Nyack. A resident of Valley Cottage, he is a longtime member of Nyack's Empire Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 in Upper Nyack, where his son, James Weck Jr., is also a member.
