Vanderhoef Has 'Very Serious Reservations' About County Budget

County exec OKs packaged approved by Legislature.

Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef today notified the Rockland County Legislature he has approved the 2012 budget they adopted last week, despite some “very serious reservations.”

Vanderhoef’s decision is explained in a memo to the Legislature, which was delivered this afternoon.

See the attached PDF file with the text of Vanderhoef's message.

I wrote several days ago: "Be a MAN, Scott, and stick to your principles and your budget! Either veto this or retire and let someone else get us out of this tax and spend". So now we have the answer! Scott is a figurehead politician happily doing nothing for his salary at our expense. Why did he even bother preparing a budget and holding a press conference about it!

Scott is a coward. I will never vote for him again. The legislators that put forward this budget as well as Vanderhoef for not standing up to them should be ashamed of themselves

I guess the back room and under the table politics has won. Shame on you. You were told by your constituents and should know what the right thing to do is. Why do the wrong thing? It does not make sense. The county will never be stable as long as you keep paying six figure salaries to so many cops. Face it we do need law enforcement but not so many and not so hightly paid. We live in a safe environment overall thank God and thanks to the good hard working people that live here. And thanks to the police too, but the reality is we don't live in "Fort Apache the Bronx". And I'm originally from the Bronx and can say those cops really need the pay raise. Scott I hope it was worth it.

TONY B I completely agree with your comment about the highly overpaid law enforcement. We live in a area where we have a bunch of fat, out of shape, Middle aged police officers making six figures. There are plenty of young aspiring FIT officers who would gladly take half that salary. We can essentially double the police presence out here by simply cutting salaries in half. Are you kidding me? six figures to a bunch of fatso grey hair police officers with butt soars from sitting in their cars all day? We have to get our fiscal priorities in order.
