Local officials will be on hand at 11:00 am to officially celebrate the Market’s opening. Live entertainment will be provided by R&R Music from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Nyack Center is located at 58 Depew Avenue (at South Broadway). Free parking will be available during Market hours in the Artopee Way lot.

The new indoor market will pick up where the outdoor Farmers’ Market left off on the day before Thanksgiving, and will continue every Thursday from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm during the winter months through May 2, 2013.  The outdoor market reopens on May 9, 2013.

Building on the 15 years of success enjoyed by the Nyack Farmers’ Market, the new venture is a partnership between the Nyack Chamber of Commerce and the Nyack Center. Sponsorship is generously provided by Green Mountain Energy and Green Meadow Waldorf School; both also sponsor the outdoor market.

“We’re excited to offer a new resource to the Nyack community,” said Kim Cross, Executive Director, Nyack Center. “The Winter Market will be a focal point for families who value healthy lifestyles, and a bright spot during the cold winter months.”

Market regulars will recognize many of their favorite vendors at the new venue, including Dish Catering, Hummingbird Ranch, Kiernan Farm, Meredith Country Bakery, Mostly Myrtle’s, Orchards of Concklin, Pie Lady & Son and Taiims Falafel Shack. Vendors new to the Winter market include Hudson Valley Harvest, Gajeski Produce, and Ronneybrook Farm products.

Opening day will also include an exhibition of 25 drawings of the Farmer’s Market by Bill Batson, the Market’s artist-in-residence and creator of Nyack Sketch Log, a column that presents a weekly sketch and short essay about Nyack on NyackNewsAndViews.com.

“We invited Bill to be our first Artist-in-Residence because of his commitment to recording the history of Nyack. We think the Farmer’s Market has a story to tell about the vibrant and diverse commercial life of the village,” said Chamber of Commerce President Scott Baird.

The drawings Batson creates each week at the Market will be presented to the Nyack Library where they will be on permanent rotating display. Nyack Library Interim Director Mitch Freedman will be on hand at the Market opening to accept the artwork as a permanent loan from the Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re starting a new tradition in Nyack with the Winter Market, and we expect it will enjoy a similarly long and fruitful life in the heart of our special Village,” added Baird. “We also expect to see the same kind of crowd – lots of Nyack natives, but also friends and neighbors from far and wide who love good food, fresh local products and the special home-made delicacies you can’t find in a supermarket.”
