Streetscape, Police Issues Up for Debate Tonight
Village board meeting will tackle Streetscape complaints, Orangetown Police petition
Two of Nyack's hot-button issues— and —will be up for discussion at tonight's village board meeting.
Currently, a is calling for the Orangetown Police Department to maintain full coverage of downtown Nyack. The petition came about when, after several officers were injured in a , the department redeployed its force.
Currently, Nyack pays $2.1 million to Orangetown each year for police coverage; the police department has spent $155,000 in overtime costs this year covering the village. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 200 Nyackers had signed the petition.

Also up for discussion at tonight's meeting will be the , a downtown overhaul that revamped Nyack's Main Street—but left a sour taste in some merchants' and residents' mouths.
Nyackers have taken issue with the consequent loss of six parking spaces, the street planters—which are currently unadorned and collect garbage—and the curb cuts, which hold water after storms.
