South Nyack residents will gather to honor and thank recently retired Chief of Police Bob Van Cura and outgoing Mayor Tish Dubow Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Franklin Street Park.
There will be live music and refreshments. Attendees are asked to bring a contribution to the dessert table. If it rains, the event would be moved to the second floor meeting room at Orangetown Fire Co. #1 at 90 Depot Place.
DuBow chose not to run for re-election as mayor of South Nyack this year. Bonnie Christian won the election March 19, appointing DuBow to her complete her term as Trustee. DuBow first took over as mayor of South Nyack in 2004.
That same year, Van Cura took over as Chief of the South Nyack-Grand View Police Department. He served in law enforcement in South Nyack since joining the South Nyack Police Department as an auxiliary member in 1980.
During his career, Van Cura has been President of the Police Chief's Association of Rockland County and Nyack Fire District Commissioner. He accepted the position of Undersheriff for Rockland County in January and retired as South Nyack-Grand View Chief of Police.
