Clarkstown roads are slowly being reopened as power lines, trees and branches are cleared in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Sections of 58 roads are still completely closed in New City, Bardonia, Valley Cottage, Congers, West Nyack and Nanuet. 28 roads are partially closed in New City, Nanuet, West Nyack, Congers and Valley Cottage.
The pace of progress is slow because highway crews cannot clear the downed limbs on the roads until Orange & Rockland shuts off the live power lines. On Thursday morning, town supervisors and highway superintendents met with Senator David Carlucci and Assembly members Ken Zebrowski and Bill Larkin to discuss their damage assessments and cleanup efforts and additional assistance they need. Clarkstown Highway Superintendent Wayne Ballard said O&R sent two linemen to work with highway employees during the overnight hours from Wednesday to Thursday. They reopened three roads: Third Street, West Nyack Road and Bardonia Road.
