Signs Point to Low Turn Out for GOP Presidential Primary Today

Drop out of Rick Santorum, wide lead for Romney in polls, among signs

New York's Republican presidential primary is today, but don't expect the excitement seen from earlier nomination contests.

With former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum having dropped out earlier this month, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is now being referred to as the "presumptive front runner" in published media reports.

Even in the closing weeks of Santorum's candidacy, polls for New York (including Quinnipiac and Siena) showed Romeny with large double-digit leads.

Santorum is still listed on the ballot, according to records from the state's board of elections.

Westchester County Legislative Minority Leader Jim Maisano (R-New Rochelle) noted the lack of talk for the event in a Journal News interview on Sunday.

“No one I know on the Republican side is even talking about the primary," he told the paper.

The primary is one of five across the country today.

Although the primary is not drawing a lot of excitement today, Rockland County Republicans like Orangetown GOP Chairman Robert Simon said the presidential race is generating a lot of local political interest and is attracting new volunteers who want to be involved with the presidential campaign.

Obama has credted $5 a gallon gas prices, insurance premiums through the roof and high unemployment. Sounds alot like the 70s with Jimmy Carter at the helm. If Obama is a one-term president, he'll be remembered as much as Carter.

Wrong again! Let's really do the homework on those raging gas prices before you pin that on him....He inherited that gift of employment problems from previous Pres and all those 8 years of Jobs going overseas and doling out large company tax breaks ....bearing down on the tax payers. Obama will win again. Don't get too upset. Even though you hate him, he has got your back! My back and the nation, all classes! Truly. Next term promises to be a game changer.... and you'll be grateful that he's at the helm of our great nation. Carter was underrate too for what it's worth. Not saying Obama got it perfect....That's impossible

New York State's electoral college votes go to the Democratic candidate, so it really doesn't matter who the Republican candidate is. The only Republican who has a shot at winning the Presidency is Chris Christie, except he's not running.

"Give it a minute to catch hold" So three years and one minute? He's had since 2009 to "catch hold".
