Sandy Update: Schools Close,SEPTA Shut Down

As the rain starts up, schools and transit shut down.

Sandy is now predicted to slam directly into Southeastern Pennsylvania as a Category 1 Hurricane.

That is the latest prediction from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (joined by the regional head of the Red Cross and SEPTA Director) who held late Sunday afternoon news conferences.

SEPTA WILL SHUT DOWN the entire transit system starting with the last scheduled runs Sunday night.

The Springfield School District will be closed Monday and Tuesday.  The district will re-evaluate the conditions on Monday before making the call to close schools on Tuesday.

Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will be closed Monday.

AMTRAK is shutting down service in the Northeast Corridor tonight and will not operate most trains Monday.
