Orangetown To Vote On Police Officer Appointments, Town Code Amendment

The Orangetown Council will vote on the approval of Keith Trojan and Thomas Roeder as Orangetown Police Officers as part of a busy agenda for the town board meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at town hall in Orangeburg.

The appointments are "temporary," allowing Roeder and Trojan to attend the Rockland County Police and Public Safety Academy. Both were taken from the Rockland County Civil Service list. The town board recently met in executive session to discuss the staffing of the police department, which has seen the number of officers dwindle. The latest to leave was Police Officer Robert Sick, whose retirement was effective Jan. 25.

The full agenda and supporting materials for Tuesday's meeting can be found on the Orangetown website here

The meeting will also include a public hearing, which is scheduled for 8 p.m., regarding a possible change to the town code regarding flood damage prevention.

Among other items on the agenda:

  • Approval of a Community Development Block Grant application for Thorpe Village and Bowling Gardens. for $20,000.
  • Setting the fees to play at Blue Hill Golf Course for 2014.
  • Approval of a bond agreement Todd Cable Construction, LLC to ensure the restoration of town roads after the installation of communication conduits at the Bloomberg Building at the intersection of Western Highway and Bataan Road.
  • Renew the town's agreement with Wilson Elser to lobby on the town's behalf in Albany.
