Orangetown Expected to Approve CSEA Contract Tonight

The Orangetown Council will vote on a new six-year contract with the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) at the regular board meeting beginning 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at town hall.

The CSEA has been working without a contract since 2010. The deal has already been approved by union members.

The full agenda for Tuesday's meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m., can be found here.

There will be a public hearing at 8 p.m. to discuss the elimination of the position of receiver of taxes.

The Orangetown Council could vote tonight to put the change on the ballot along with the general election this November. The measure is expected to pass easily, though the voters would have to approve it.

The duties of the tax receiver would be folded into the town clerk's office.
Current Orangetown Receiver of Taxes Bob Simon and Chris Smith, who is challenging him for the position in November, have both come out in support of the consolidation for the purpose of saving the town money.
