Nyack to Receive FEMA Money for Snowstorms

Federal government will pay out about $25,000

A check for $25,000 is in the mail for Nyack.

The village is set to receive funds from the State Emergency Management Office/Federal Emergency Management Agency (SEMO/FEMA) for this past winter's snow storms. The handful of blizzards dumped around two feet of snow on the village and forced the government to exceed its snow removal budget. As a result, Nyack—and nearby areas—was declared a federal disaster area by the federal government.

Victor Overton, head of Nyack's DPW, compiled the village's application for FEMA funds. The total cost submitted was $27,998.72; Nyack will receive $24,498.88, or 87.5 percent of that number. It will take several weeks for the village to receive the check, explained Richard Kavesh, Nyack's mayor.

"I want to thank Jim Politi and Victor Overton for doing such a great job in putting together the application and documenting the hours we put in during that epic snow storm, as well as thanking Victor and his workers again for their yeoman efforts in digging us out," he added.
