Nyack, Piermont Part of River Villages New Year's Eve Fireworks

The villages of Nyack, Piermont and Haverstraw will bring in 2014 with a New Year's Eve fireworks display.

According to Nyack Mayor Jen Laird-White, the three river villages developed the plan with the Rockland County Tourism Department and the New York State Tourism office.

"It just came together," White said. "The Rockland Rivertowns welcome in the New Year. It's great. We all work well together. It's great for all the communities. The downtowns can always use reasons for people to visit. People can come to Haverstraw, Piermont and Nyack and stay to watch the fireworks."

White said the fireworks, which will be set off at midnight, would be a way to send outgoing Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef out with a bang and welcome incoming County Executive Ed Day.

The villages will handle the set up and setting off of the fireworks, with funding coming from the tourism offices.
