Nyack Parking Signs Could Be Upgraded

Village officials say new signage is overdue

Parking signs in Nyack' downtown may be replaced with larger, easier-to-read counterparts, and munimeters may recieve sign upgrades, too, village officials said at last week's board of trustees meeting.

Visitors to Nyack often have trouble navigating the streets and finding the appropriate place to park and pay, said James Politi, Nyack's village administrator.

"The issue needs to be tended to, and we’re not tending to it," he added.

Jen Laird-White, Nyack's mayor, added that she fields complaints from both motorists and parking enforcement officers that lots are not properly marked.

The village has three municipal parking areas: the Catherine Street parking lot, which costs $30 per month to use, the Spear Street parking lot, which costs $10 per month, and the Riverspace lots, which costs $50 per month, and also houses by-the-hour spots.

Street parking is in effect Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for 75-cents per hours, although .

Politi, Laird-White and other lawmakers are looking into new signs from South Mill Street to Broadway, and noted they could be financed with money left in this winter's snow removal fund, or possibly by remaining money.

Village officials will vote on whether or not to go ahead with a preliminary consulting project—which would cost in the thousands—at the March 8 board of trustees meeting.
