Nyack Looks to Outsource Marina Operation

Request for Proposal (RFP) hopes to find operator

Village lawmakers are looking to outsource the day-to-day operation on the Nyack Marina to a professional.

Currently, the village is continuing to repair the waterfront property, with the help of FEMA funds, from storm damage.

"Everything is ahead of schedule," explained Jim Politi, the village's administrator, at a recent board meeting. Politi noted crews are working on the south bulkhead at the moment. "Hopefully, we'll be open for the season."

And last week, Nyack officials released a Request for Proposals (RFP), a document that seeks to find an entity to run the soon-to-be fixed marina.

The entity placed in charge of the marina would be tasked with "seasonal slip rentals, day-slip rentals for transients, and the possible installation and rentals of moorings to both seasonal users as well as transients," according to the RFP document.

"It is also strongly encouraged that the marina operator include facilities or accommodations for human-powered vessels, such as kayaks and canoes, within the confines of the marina facilities," the document continues.

Village officials said the operating the marina would be a year-round job, and the winning bidder would pay the village monthly. The operator would also have the ability to set up restrooms and concession stands, be they food, bait or cleaning supply shops.

The marina will also include 30 regular parking space and 12 larger parking space to accommodate trailers. The operator, and not the village, would be able to issue parking violations.

Nyack will still be in charge of insurance and outfitting the area with electricity according to the RFP, but the marina operator will insure any extra docks added, and provide the electricity for additions, also.

The full RFP is available to view on the village's website.
