Village Looks into Nyack Hospital Parking Problem

Residents say employees park on residential streets

Some village residents who live near are peeved about hospital employees parking on surrounding residential streets, and village officials are looking into possible solutions.

Hospital employees have access to a lot and shuttle service off Route 9W, though some still opt to park on the streets hugging the hospital.

A possible solution—still in the discussion stages—would be shifting street cleaning times, Nyack lawmakers said. Currently, alternate side parking is in effect seven days a week from the hours of 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.

But if the time was shifted to 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., officials said, it may discourage hospital employees working the day shift from parking on the street.

Residents would lose parking access at these times, too, however.

To cut back on confusion and tickets during the possible switchover, trustee Steve Knowlton said the village could enact a trial period where signage is changed but warnings, and not fines, are given out for the first 30 days.

"There's no perfect solution," Knowlton added. "We just have to find the solution with the least inconvenience."

Nyack Hospital does not have any plans to address public parking, said Amy Massimo, the hospital's director of public affairs.
