Street Parking Banned During Heavy Snowfall

Nyack introduces new snow removal policy

A new snow enforcement policy in Nyack aims to keep village streets free of parked cars during snowfall—and residents who fail to move their vehicles can face a $50 fine.

The new policy, adopted by lawmakers , requires all cars be moved off certain public streets and into driveways or lots during a snow emergency. A snow emergency is defined by two or more inches of snow, officials said.

"The purpose of this policy is to ensure the public safety and welfare during storm conditions which may cause the village roads to become hazardous to automobile and pedestrian travel," Nyack officials explained in a written statement. Officials also noted clear roads mean quick response time from first responders.
