Republicans in one of the nation's biggest Democratic strongholds have one thing to tell Mitt Romney after the rash of bad publicity he's garnered over his secretly taped "47 percent" remarks.
It ain't over yet.
The majority of Republican insiders in New York polled by Patch this week said the candidate's quagmire over his seeming dismissal of poorer or government-dependent Americans will not affect the outcome of the election, though many admit that the situation has dealt a blow to the former Massachusetts governor.
In fact, only two of the 34 influentials who answered our survey thought the remarks spell the end of Romney's bid for the Oval Office.
Romney has faced immense scrutiny this week following the release of video secretly shot at a Florida closed-door fundraiser in which the candidate appears to disparage who he calls President Barack Obama's loyal base of voters.
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what," Romney said in the video released by Mother Jones.
Romney so far has stood by his remarks, but conceded that they were not "elegantly stated."
It's a similar strategy suggested by many of Patch's respondents, a group of political insiders who include campaign organizers, community board members, activists, town supervisors and congressional candidates who all gave their remarks on the condition of anonymity.
"It's true and they should confront it head on. Explain why jobs are better then dependency," said one respondent.
"Do not apologize," said another. "Continue the message that America is about private sector opportunity and entrepreneurs and not the government running and coddling our lives."
In fact, most of the advice our insiders said they'd give to Romney and his campaign managers revolved around keeping their message on point with the country's economic recovery.
"They should immediately refocus on the fact that there are so many in need of govt subsidies because of Obamas failed economic policies," said one respondent, while another said, "don't be so stupid. Stick to the pressing issues and the failures of the Obama administraion."
Our insiders, however, did criticize the candidate for not being a smarter campaigner, especially when it comes to speaking more carefully in public.
"Be positive, be forthright and think before you speak (even in private)," one respondent said.
The Red Empire Survey
Our surveys are not a scientific random sample of any larger population but rather an effort to listen to a swath of influential local Republican activists, party leaders and elected officials in New York. All of these individuals have agreed to participate in the surveys, although not all responded to this week's questions. Surveys were conducted between July 23 and July 31.
Patch will be conducting Red Empire State and Blue Empire State surveys throughout 2012 in hopes of determining the true sentiment of conservatives and liberals on the ground in New York. As for my edumacation i am one of thum thar haigh school drops outs who received his GED in the service,but once out of the service my friend there was no stopping me.I started a business with less than 700 dollars in my pocket and now am proud to say i own a lot of real estate,and I have plenty of money in the bank.But there is one thing i will never forget are the people who have had faith in me,the banks who loaned me the money over the years, and the people who deposited their money so's i could borrow,I will never forget the union people who have helped me over the years(GEORGE MEANY) to name just one,with out their advice and guidance i don't believe i would be as far today.
I find it hard to believe by reading your background that you support the out of control entitlement mentality in America today. Compassion for our fellow citizens does not entail a blank check with no strings attached. Truly helping someone is not to keep them enslaved for generations with government handouts unless it is ones desire to build a permanent dependent class.
FYI Obama does not even come close to being a socialist, he is too much a centrist, something the Republican part did away these last few years..

I am going to make a prediction,the party that tries to take that away will no longer be able to by a vote in any election.When Simpson stated on national TV that people are greedy for wanting what they paid for was the start of the republicans down fall.Whether i agree or disagree doesn't really matter,that statement came from a guy who lived off our dimes his whole life and had the audacity to say we were the greedy ones.Ross our country is in trouble and i think we as voters no matter what side of the isle,it is time to demand that they fix the problems they created,dems and repubs need to stick together on this one,and if that means i pay more in taxes so be it.

If there is a government benefit or program that you qualify for, then you have a right to it. If the tax code allows you to deduct interest paid on your home mortgage, then you have a right to that deduction. If the law grants you the right to vote, you have a right do do so.
That’s according to a new Bloomberg News poll, which finds that former President Bush has 46 percent favorable ratings and 49 percent unfavorable ratings among adults. By contrast, the current GOP presidential candidate Romney has a favorability rating of 43 percent and unfavorable ratings at 50 percent. President Barack Obama came in with higher favorability than both Republicans, racking up 52 favorable ratings and 44 percent unfavorables. Romney did, however, beat out Vice President Joe Biden‘s 42 percent net favorable ratings. The poll’s most favorable leader found was former President Bill Clinton, who polled at 64 percent favorable and 29 percent unfavorable. Coming in second was First Lady Michelle Obama, with 63 favorable and 29 unfavorable.
