FEMA Office Hours in Orangetown Tuesday

FEMA will hold office hours from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Orangetown Town Hall.

FEMA staff will be available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Orangetown Town Hall, just before the town board's 2013 budget hearing.

Orangetown residents can register with FEMA to find out if they are eligible for reimbursement for damage to their properties or places of employent. Documenting all damage with pictures and by saving receipts is an important part of the process.

Registration with FEMA can be done online at  http://www.disasterassistance.gov/ or by calling 1-800-621-3362. For more information, go to www.fema.gov.

According to an update from Orangetown Town Hall, FEMA is also going door-to-door to find people eligible for disaster assistance to deal with the impact of Hurricane Sandy.

Among the areas that FEMA may reimburse:

  • Temporary housing if a home is too damaged to be habitable.
  • Repair or replacement of damaged homes.
  • Disaster-related medical and dental expenses.
  • Disaster-related funeral and/or burial expenses.
  • Clothing, applicances, furniture, tools required for work, educational materials (including computers, books and supplies).
  • Fuel for heat sources
  • Clean-up items (such as wet/dry vacuums)
  • Moving and storage expenses
  • Vehicle damage
