Gas Main Work in Downtown Nyack

O&R is planning to begin the next stage of its natural gas service improvement project in the village of Nyack, weather permitting, on Oct. 17.

That project will eventually replace about 6,500 feet of cast iron pipe of 1956 vintage and older with high-tech plastic gas main over the next two years. Village leaders have been briefed on the project and its schedule.

The $600,000 project’s work, which began Sept. 26, will continue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week with trenching work commencing at the intersection of Main St. and Broadway, and then heading north on Broadway for 100 feet to New Street. Work will continue until later in the fall and begin again in the early spring.

Next summer, the gas main replacement work will be conducted south along Broadway from the Main St. – Broadway intersection for about 1,300 feet to the intersection of Broadway and Cedar Hill Ave.

During that same general time period, work then will be performed on North Broadway for another 400 feet from High St. to First Ave.

About 1,800 feet of the gas main replacement on Broadway will be four-inch plastic main. Another 200 feet of the Broadway work will be six-inch plastic main replacement and 235 more feet of two-inch plastic main will also be installed to replace cast iron mains.
