Coast Guard Sets Restrictions Near TZ Bridge

The New York Thuway Authority announced Friday that the U.S. Coast Guard created a Regulate Navigation Area (RNA) near the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The RNA is set 300 yards north and 200 yards south of the bridge. Boaters must use the main channel, reduce wake and exercise extreme caution in the RNA. The Coast Guard may also temporarily stop all traffic in the RNA in the future.

The Thruway Authority also included construction updates on the new Tappan Zee Bridge Friday. River Road in South Nyack will continue to be reduced to one lane during daytime hours due to utility work by Tappan Zee Constructors.

The following closures are also set for next week:

  • Monday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,  one southbound right-hand lane and the shoulder on 1-87/1-287 from Exit 11 to Exit 9 will be closed.
  • From Tuesday, Sept. 24 to Thursday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., one northbound right-hand lane of 1-87/I-287 between Exit 9 and the Tappan Zee Bridge will be closed.
