Clarkstown: Crackdown on Unkempt Homes

Town conducts inspections of vacant, foreclosed and abandoned properties

The Clarkstown building inspector and zoning administrator—through residents' complaints—recently identified 17 properties in the town that were not being properly maintained.

The properties in New City, Nanuet, Bardonia, Valley Cottage and West Nyack are either vacant, abandoned or foreclosed, and lawn and landscape upkeep was not being conducted.

The town board authorized the zoning administrator to perform the necessary maintenance and pass along the expense, which the town assessor will assign as a property tax lien.

Either town employees or subcontractors will trim grass, weeds and shrubs and remove the yard waste through the 2012 mowing and growing season.

The New City properties are:

  • 2 Summit Drive
  • 142 Buena Vista Road
  • 11 Sharon Drive
  • 1 Brook Road
  • 73 W. Burda Place
  • 22 Kings Highway
  • 5 Kent Street
  • 9 Kent Street

The Valley Cottage properties are:

  • 4 Hickory Hill Road
  • 528 Kings Highway
  • 958 Tilton Road
  • 11 Tena Place

The remaining locations are:

  • 15 Loran Court in Nanuet
  • 29 Cornell Drive in Bardonia
  • 564 Route 304 in Bardonia
  • 41 Medway Avenue in Congers
  • 18 Phillips Lane in West Nyack

I had such a great day today...Stress free work day ...everything going just right...Now after reading the above post, Now I'm fired up again....Once my kids are grown up, I would have no more use to live in this "Bernie Madoff" town as the prior guy posted above. I refuse to pay the pensions of these overpaid town employees. However, for now, I have to....At least my kids are getting a great education. I'm sure Gov Cuomo and Ray Kelly and for that matter all the NYPD works twice as hard as our 260 K police chief and his staff.....It's just a matter of time before this town goes bankrupt just like Nassau County and that town in California which I read about this past week..

Gary, I have started taking pictures of commercial and residential eyesores - if everyone can take pictures and email address and date to Enforcement that would be a start. Possibly Mr Epstein can advise us where to send the information. I appreciate that he took the time to respond.

Too bad there aren't more out there like these neighbors.... Sometimes you need to realize it isn't easy for everyone and if you lend a hand ...YOU will feel better as well as solve the problem.
