Actual Number of Rockland County Employee Layoffs Not Finalized

Analysis ongoing of number of positions to be eliminated and savings realized

The Rockland County Legislature .  The county’s Director of Operations Susan Rutledge said the actual number and positions have not yet been finalized.

As of Thursday, 76.5 positions were in line to be abolished with two additional positions being reviewed.  The other positions expected to be removed from the county budget are from relief lines or workers who fill jobs on a flexible as needed basis. At last week’s legislative meeting, Deputy County Executive Sean Mathews asked for a human rights specialist and a principal assistant county attorney to be taken off the list in order to give the county executive’s office time to determine if the positions are critical.

“The Personnel department is doing a detailed analysis of all positions in regards to Civil Service and labor agreements,” Rutledge explained.  “It is anticipated that employees impacted by the positions abolished will be notified by the end of June and that final dates of employment will occur by the end of July.”

Rutledge expected details on the dates to be finalized within the next week or two when the analysis is complete.

In mid May, County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef originally proposed 150 for a savings of $8.8 million, which would have been reduced to $6.7 million after unemployment benefits were paid. On May 29, the received lists of 87 positions to be eliminated and 47 vacant positions to be abolished. The layoffs are part of the county's contingency budget plan to deal with its deficit.

WE ARE DOOMED...as long as the UNIONS and their Brothers in Solidarity, HASIDIC BLOC VOTERS vote in solidarity for these same politicians. THERE IS NO HOPE. Plan accordingly to move and leave the cesspool to the leaches.

If, somehow, all of county government was eliminated to the last employee and county program, only 50% of the County's tax burden (maybe less) would be eliminated. The fact is that, fully one-half of the County's taxes is used to pay Medicare by reason of State mandate.
