2013 Town Salary Schedule Includes Elected Officials Two-Percent Raise

The schedule was approved at Thursday's meeting

At Thursday afternoon’s Clarkstown Town Board meeting, the board voted in favor of approving the 2013 salary schedule, which includes a two percent raise for elected officials.

A couple of speakers during the public comment portions of the meeting asked how the board could vote for raises given the state of the economy.

After the meeting, Town Supervisor Alex Gromack said the salary schedules are set almost completely by union contracts agreed to in previous years.

“We’re not negotiating these,” he said. “The numbers are the numbers. It’s pretty much all set. The funding for them is budgeted for.”

When questioned during the meeting, Councilman Frank Borelli said in past years, he’s returned the raise to the county. He said he was told he could calculate whatever the percentage of the raise is and return it.

I have absolutely nothing to be ashamed about as will be clear to all in the near future. Those who should feel shame are the PBA and their lackeys; our Supervisor, Town Board, Lettre, Reda, Sparaco, Miele, and Ballard.

Clarkstown and Orangetown appear to me to be about as similiar as two towns can be. The main difference that I see is political. Orangetown has a vibrant two party system, while Clarkstown has a one party system. How else can you logically explain the disparity in police officers/population? Please tell me why we need 162 officers why Orangetown only needs about 70. Do they run a more efficient operation? Is crime more of a problem in Clarkstown? There has to be an answer. I would like to hear yours.
