Westchester Accident Snarls Rockland Traffic

Thruway backed-up all the way to Airmont

Westchester-bound traffic in Rockland was snarled this morning and brought cars to a near stand-still on the Tappan Zee Bridge due to an accident east of the Hudson.

A truck crash on I-287 in White Plain at around 7 a.m. caused the congestion, and though the scene was cleared before 9:30 a.m., Rockland traffic remained clogged for over an hour afterward.

Drivers heading south on the Thruway toward Westchester sat in traffic backed-up all the way to exit 14 in Airmont. At around 9:30 a.m., it was taking 20 minutes—at least—to cross the span.

All lanes have been reopened as of 11 a.m., said Glenn Williams, a state trooper out of the Tarrytown barracks.

"There were no injures," he added.

Williams said the accident occurred when a car in front of the truck lost control.

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
