Upper Nyack Resident Beaten In Nyack Bar, Oklahoma Man Charged With Assault

Police: Victim's ankle broken; accused attacker found, arrested in South Nyack.

An argument at a Nyack bar turned violent early Saturday, leaving an Upper Nyack man with a broken ankle and an Oklahoma man in the county jail on felony assault charges, according to Orangetown police.

Ryan A. Oliver, 25, of 1821 Godhania Rd., Edmond, OK, got into an argument about 3:50 a.m. Saturday at Luna Lounge, 4 S. Franklin St., with a 40-year-old Upper Nyack resident. Police said Oliver is accused of attacking the Upper Nyack man, and wrestling him to the floor.

In the process, police said the Upper Nyack man’s ankle was dislocated and fractured, and Oliver is accused of continuing to punch him while he was on the floor — causing cuts to the man’s head and mouth.

Oliver left the bar before Orangetown police arrived. However, a South Nyack-Grand View police officer spotted Oliver in South Nyack and stopped to investigate because Oliver was banging on a door on Cedar Hill Avenue, according to police.

Oliver was arrested in South Nyack for disorderly conduct and the South Nyack-Grand View officer who made the arrest contacted Orangetown police after hearing over the police radio that they were looking for a person matching his description in connection with the Luna Lounge incident.

Police said witnesses to the bar attack confirmed that Oliver was the man involved and he was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault. Police said the victim in the attack was treated at Nyack Hospital.

Oliver was arraigned in Nyack Justice Court by Judge Robert Knoebel and ordered held in the Rockland County Correctional Facility in New City without bail. Police said the decision on bail was affected by Oliver having previous felony convictions.
