Trooper, 5 Others Hurt In Chase That Ends In Crash

Pursuit started in Westchester, ended with car overturning in Rockland.

A state trooper and five others were injured when a chase that began in Westchester crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge and ended with a crash in Rockland and the arrest of a Bronx man, according to State Police.

Shakeal T. Tyler, 19, of the Bronx, was hit with felony charges as a result of the chase, which ended on southbound Route 303 near Spruce Street in Orangretown just after 11 p.m. on Sunday.

State Police said they tried to stop Tyler on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers, but the driver refused to pull over. Police said they later learned Tyler didn't have a driver's license.

The chase led to the Tappan Zee Bridge and then into Rockland, where Tyler lefft the New York State Thruway and ended up on Route 303.

Police said a state trooper was hit in an eye with glass. He and Tyler and four passengers were taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

- First-degree reckless endangerment, a felony.

- Second-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

- Second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor.

- Third-degree fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor.
