Tappan Man Charged with Felony DWI

52-year-old arrested after report of suspicious vehicle in restaurant parking lot in Tappan.

A complaint about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Tappan restaurant led to the arrest of a 52-year-old Tappan man on felony drunken driving charges, according to Orangetown police.

Matthew R. Cafarello of Contempra Circle, Tappan, was charged after an 8:31 p.m. incident Thursday at the Wendy's, 5 Route 303, Tappan. Town officers reported finding Cafarello in a 2008 Chevrolet van with the engine running, and that he appeared intoxicated.

Poice said Cafarello failed field sobriety tests, was arrested and then refused to submit to a chemical breath test for alcohol. He was charged with driving while intoxicated as a felony because of a previous DWI conviction within 10 years, and he was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
