Speeding On Route 59 In Nanuet Leads To DWI Charge

Garnerville man arrested at 5:20 a.m. on Sunday.

A Garnerville man who was speeding on Route 59 in Nanuet early Sunday morning is charged with drunken driving, according to Clarkstown police.

Selvin Portillo-Calderon, 27, of Garnerville, was stopped by a town patrolman at 5:20 a.m. when the officer saw him driving at a high rate of speed through Nanuet. Portillo-Calderon failed a field sobriety test and was taken to Clarkstown police headquarters in New City, where police said he refused to take a chemical breath test for alcohol.

Portillo-Calderon was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court in New City and later released pending a Friday hearing on charges of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and several traffic violations.
