Members of the recently brought some holiday cheer to children at by arranging an early visit from Santa.
Members of the fire department's Empire Hook and Ladder Co. in throw an annual holiday party for local children at their firehouse. Firefighters in the all-volunteer department said that as they were getting ready for the party, members brought up the idea of doing something to make the holidays nicer for children who are staying in the Pediatrics Department at Nyack Hospital.
The fire department connected with the The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, which in turn provided the toys that were distributed by Santa to the kids staying at the hospital.
And, as the firefighters were getting ready to take Santa (Nyack firefighter Teddy Ryder) to the hospital, a group of local Girl Scouts came up with more gifts for children in the Pediatrics Department.
Extra gifts were given to hospital nurses to use as gifts for new patients who come to their department.
This was the first holiday gift trip to the hospital for the firefighters, but they are hoping to make it an annual event.
