Police: Manhunt Catches Possible Shooter

Police have arrested Eric Goods, the Valley Cottage resident who is a person of interest in this morning's shooting at the Mountainview Condominiums.

Goods was apprehended after an hours-long manhunt that utilized a helicopter, police dogs and police from several departments. Clarkstown Schools were placed on lockdown while Goods was at large, but have since reopened.

Goods was captured on foot on Mountainview Avenue in Valley Cottage at about 11:30 a.m. a short distance south of the Mountainview Condo complex. Police said Goods is being taken to Clarkstown police headquarters in New City, where he will be processed.

No charges have been filed yet, police said.

Goods was arrested as he came out of the woods along Mountainview Avenue.

A Valley Cottage man has been shot and a neighbor is being sought this morning as a "person of interest" in the gunfire at Mountainview Condominiums this morning, according to .

Police said the shooting victim, a man who lives at the sprawling condo complex, was shot multiple times outside 585 Sierra Vista Lane at 5:50 a.m. Sgt. Harry Baumann said the victim was able to talk to police and paramedics and was taken to for treatment, where he is listed in stable condition.

Baumann said investigators believe the incident was possibly the result of a neighbor dispute, but the nature of the dispute is still uncertain. One of the men was walking a dog at the time of the shooting.

The victim was shot with a handgun, Baumann said. Capt. Robert Mahon said the handgun used in the shooting has been recovered, along with a black hoodie sweatshirt that was believed to have been worn by the gunman.

Baumann said the man who fired the gun was seen running west of the condo complex. In the search, Baumann said police are looking for a Mountainview resident who has been described as a person of interest, 53-year-old Eric Goods.

As of 7:15 a.m., Baumann said Clarkstown Police and its canine units, along with officers and Rockland County's emergency helicopter, are searching the area of the condominiums and into nearby Nyack in hopes of locating the man who did the shooting. State Police were also involved with the search, along with a canine unit from Westchester.

Baumann said Clarkstown police were getting ready to send automatic telephone messages to residents of the area about the shooting and the ongoing manhunt.

Mahon said police have Goods' cell phone number and are trying to reach him. He said Clarkstown hostage negotiators would try to speak with Goods in hopes of having him turn himself in for questioning in connection with the shooting.

The investigation turned the Mountainview complex into an armed camp, with a road block of Clarkstown and State Police officers at the entrance to the complex.

The investigation also prompted a lockdown of Clarkstown schools, where children were attending summer programs or at pre-season practices for school sports.
