Police Uncover Drugs, Weapon After Chase

On the heels of a foot chase, and with the help of a canine unit, Clarkstown police arrested a wanted felon earlier this week, authorities told Patch.

Police learned on Monday afternoon that suspect Jermaine Roberts—a 34-year-old Haverstraw resident—was staying at the Nyack Motor Lodge in West Nyack. Roberts had an active parole and arrest warrant out, police said.

Authorities called Roberts' room, which led him to flee toward the nearby woods. Police called for him to stop; when he kept running, authorities released a police dog to apprehend him.

"Roberts sustained an injury to the calf region and is being treated at Nyack Hospital," police said.

Police then uncovered a slate of contraband at the scene, including a stolen .50 caliber revolver, cocaine, heroin and marijuana.

Roberts was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, all felonies. He was also charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

Roberts is due in court Sept. 11.
